Creating a monumental sculpture, especially for a public commission, is an achievement, both as an artist and a citizen. Personal and collective histories meet and drive each other on.

Any sculpture, as minuscule as it is, should have a monumental quality. One only needs to think about the little prehistorical Venuses or the very little plasters of Giacometti…

The first sketched lines, the preparatory drafts and the making of the sculpture in its final dimension, are tasks that must be entirely completed by the sculptor (which is not always the case), stimulating at each stage his creativity and his craftmanship.

There is also this very specific relationship of the body as it is being confronted to big volumes.
